It borders on obsession, but I have a lot of fun!

Yesterday, fetching rubber bands (for my diapers, of course) in a big box store, there was this coupon ... 100% cotton ... any thin ... with small animals ... reduction because it was in the end ... Given all these arguments, I capitulated. I wanted to decorate a few layers and the fabric was perfect, because the animals are all different.

I made a diaper bag, but without the internal pockets. It is so a thousand times faster! I now

9 layers. I want to do 9 more. They will until baby weighs 15 pounds. Then if we like it, I may make larger, relying on my own experience. Will I prefer pocket diapers or molded? With or without pockets? That is why I am doing a variety. The middle classes are longer and I want to be sure of my choices before I start. I really hope to like it because the produce is really fun!

Oh my God.

I just love my new coat that I want to drag in my bag and show it to everyone. But I will restrain myself and only show it here (and probably ten times to my boyfriend tonight) (and perhaps my mother).

When I ordered my PUL, I did not know the sex of the baby. And anyway, an advantage of cloth diapers is to keep them for a second child, so I wanted unisex colors. However, there was no other pretty colors except yellow unisex butter. Exit celery, sage, orange ... I took the navy blue which is actually a translation from: dark blue outer sea. But hey, it's still beautiful and we agree that these are just diapers! Moreover, I love the contrast can be done with colored thread (if I can learn to sew right!).

So I made a layer of PUL with very masculine blue and light blue microfleece. The stitching is white, which gives a little look "jeans". I have done better this layer, even if I made a mistake in a pocket inside, forgetting to pinch above. It gives one side a little wider than the other, but I doubt that efficiency is compromised.

Muffins Orange

1 / 2 cup oil permitted
1 / 2 cup sugar 1 cup flour

1 / 2 cup whole wheat flour 1 tablespoon
tablespoon baking powder
1 / 4 c.
tsp salt 3 / 4 cup orange juice

In mixer bowl, combine the oil and sugar.

In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Include dry ingredients and mix the juice with oil.

Spoon batter into molds.

It took about 12 minutes for mini muffins and 22 minutes for larger ones.

I continue my tests and explorations in the big world of diapers!

I started working the PUL. It is a special fabric, very thin, waterproof. I do not think it's obvious to sew ... There is something that sticks on the machine and at the same time is somewhat elastic. We must find a happy medium voltage wire.

I first used to make me a cover layer for the layers of flannel made last time.

Problems:
- create a template with Velcro (on the internet, they use many snaps for diaper cover)
- large enough to create a pattern in the right places (although it must cover the flannel layer)
- sew the elastic on the damn damn stretch fabric! (My death)
- ensure there are no leaks (not easy without a human model)

I wasted two pieces of fabrics with my boss first model (it was too small) and my attempts to elastic. I finally came to a head model with two options Elastic sewn into a tunnel, the other in a zig zag. (Here, I present only the model with the tunnel ... I find it more aesthetic). I made only two for now: I want to wait to test it on my baby to ensure there are no leaks. In addition, you can "roll" with two diaper cover by day (they are used alternately by cleaning and drying them in the open air between the exchange).

The advantages of this system are:
- layers very effective for smaller babies (I made a template for babies 8-15 pounds)
- enough economic (PUL is more expensive, but since you can run at 2 covers diapers a day, it does we take only 4 or 6, depending on the frequency of washes) (we need several layers of flannel, but they are relatively inexpensive to manufacture)

Disadvantages:
- big ass! (PUL thick flannel + 1 + 1 + microfleece lining absorbing 3 or 4 layers, depending on fabric)
- longer to make (but hey, we're talking seconds here)

Whew! Monday I spent 6 hours sewing this layer ... There were 26 steps and it gave about 40 for me because I was wrong in lots of places, I had to fight, again ... Yet, I loved it and I commend myself from this afternoon!

Reminder: the diaper bag similar to the principle of a disposable diaper: you put it in one step and the outside is waterproof. The interior is microfleece (leaves liquids to pass, but gives an impression to dry). But there is a "pocket" (hence the name) on the back: it is in this space that puts the absorbent lining.

The advantages are:
- It dries very quickly, because the absorbent lining is removed. Layer and the lining are separated during washing and drying, so it's twice as fast to dry. (For my leak testing, I wet the flannel diapers ... and it's true that it is relatively slow to dry)
- You can vary the absorption (eg at night, we can put more) by adding inserts
- It starts in one step, as a nappies. When baby is older and start fortiller, it's easier.
- Manufactured under large buttocks.
- Very effective

Disadvantages:
- More long to make (in my case at least!)
- More expensive (in store, they can cost up to $ 25 per layer ... if we made 8 changes by day and washed every 3 days, ouch!)
- More expensive to manufacture as (PUL is used for each layer)

So my coat pocket. All ideas presented geniuses not me, haha! I used the Jalie pattern instructions + suggestions and advice forum mamanpourlavie girls. I have small things to improve, the central position of my Velcro (it is too low).

- the velcro is twofold: I sewed a soft part on the rough. In the photo that compares the two layers, the Velcro are separated, but if baby has a small size, we can superimpose the Velcro:

- J have done internal gussets: basically, you sew another elastic on each side but within of microfleece (that explains my 6 hours of work, because after that it was not easy to take the elastic thigh!). However, I am very happy with my pockets and it seems it's very effective.
- The layers of flannel, there was a little hideaway for Velcro when they are washed. In this case, it is another Velcro inside the wing. One has only to fold the Velcro hook on the sweet and nothing HOOK.
I'm not as diapers in my life, but say it is busy! For the rest:

homemade yogurt

This fall, I had a phase where I wanted to make homemade yogurt. I tried several ways, most of them with yogurt mixed with milk. It does not really work and I abandoned the idea. It is not easy to keep a temperature of 42 degrees for 5 hours.

However, returning from a visit to the family New Year's Day, I brought in my suitcase ... a yogurt maker. Yay! It belonged to my grandmother and the instruction booklet, it says the date of purchase: 1979. She is older than me!

The yogurt is really to keep the right temperature (42 degrees) during the 5 hours of incubation. One branch, and sometimes it turns to warm, other times she goes out. The basic recipe is simple: 8 cups of milk and a budget of 10 g. bacteria (in yogurt counter in the grocery store). It begins by heating the milk to boiling, then cooled to the right temperature (I also inherited a thermometer handy) (to cool it faster, you can put the pan in a sink with cold water). It adds a bit of warm milk for bacteria, and then incorporates them in remaining milk. It puts everything in the glass jar, then into the yogurt maker in which we put a little warm water. One connects all for about 5 hours. Then: fridge for 8 hours. The yogurt is ready.

Made with 2% milk, my yogurt was still liquid this morning. I have several options to thicken:

1 - drain it: this is what I did this morning. I put essuis-all in a colander and drain the yogurt I made about 1 hour at room temperature. The problem is we lose a lot: at least 3 cups of liquid. For cons, the texture is great and it is not at all greasy. However, 8 cups of milk to make a meager 4 cups of yogurt, is impractical.
2 - Add one envelope of gelatin in cold milk.
3 - Add milk powder to cold milk.
4 - Add gelatin powder + milk
5 - Add the cream ... In fact, it's a personal theory, but it certainly would allow me to get close to the delicious texture of 10% across the Mediterranean. I have a cup 35% cream in the fridge ... and I still have milk ... and my envelopes of bacteria are 5g, so I might try a half recipe with 1 cup cream and 3 cups of milk.

To flavor yogurt, you have several options:
- jam or fruit spread
- pieces of fruit (on the internet, it is suggested cook a bit in the microwave to make them a little water )
- stewed fruit
- toasted coconut
- zest (orange or lemon)
- caramel (if you are very naughty)

I also read other interesting ideas:
- brew a pod vanilla, zest or a cinnamon stick when boiling milk early in the process.
- the Coconut: Add a can of milk coconut and coconut
- cif add instant at the beginning of the process for a coffee yogurt (YUM)

The latest yoghurt are sometimes made for a dozen small individual pots. So some add fruit and herbs directly into the bottom of small pot, then add milk and stocked up with yogurt with fruit at the bottom (I saw a recipe for great jars of pear-chocolate yogurt).
